The Vision

At the The International Artist Academy, we offer quality music lessons in Australia and aim with these music lessons to create the complete artist - singer, instrumentalist, and song-writer. In today's music industry, it is becoming increasingly difficult to succeed without being multi-skilled - many of the successful commercial 'artists' that we see on MTV or hear on radio are strong singers, unique song-writers who use instruments to help them write their material. At this academy, we firmly believe that it is our responsibility to give our students the opportunity to become ‘an artist', not just ‘a singer' - hence, we provide the highest level of music lessons and teaching in voice, piano, guitar and song-writing, with all techniques taught being world-renowned.

As part of the IAA vision, we believe that it is essential to give our students performance opportunities through fortnightly-run PERFORMANCE NIGHTS which serve to provide additional experience for our students on top of their music lessons. These showcases allow our students to develop their craft in becoming a "complete artist". Furthermore, the IAA offers its students professional recording experience, and with 2 high-tech recording studios in Melbourne, IAA students will understand the behind-the-scenes of the music industry.

We are not just another singing/music school like those around Australia - we are proud to be able to present our students with opportunities to get their music out onto the international stage.

back to topMission Statement

Our mission statement is to create "the complete artist" in the Australian and International Music Industry - with multiple multi-platinum and gold records on the way over the next 6 months, IAA will be the biggest talking point in artist development in Australia.

However, we also strongly believe in our students achieving their personal goals and this may mean recording an EP, simply working towards a first-time performance or writing/recording an original song. At the IAA, we believe in goal-setting and working with determination to reach these goals.

The Team

Our teachers have many years experience in their fields, but most importantly, to be a coach at IAA, they must all be performing artists and song-writers. Furthermore, we provide first hand professional recording experience to all our students as a tool to further improve their skills.
Thanh Bui - Founder/director

"Listen to your heart," Thanh Bui says when asked what advice he'd give a young artist starting out. "Don't be afraid to dream, you can do anything. And don't be afraid to break stereotypes."

Thanh knows all about that. In 2008, he became the first Australian of Vietnamese background to reach the Top 10 on Australian Idol.

But Idol is just one part of the Thanh Bui story. He's already spent a lifetime in music.

Thanh found fame in Asia in the Australian group North, who released two albums - 2004's self-titled set (on Universal) and 2006's Straight Up (on EMI). They had three number one hits in Thailand and Indonesia, and two chart-toppers in Malaysia. North toured Asia twice, and also did the Commonwealth Games song I Am Strong.

Thanh and his North band mate Alfred Tuohey formed the production company Yin Yang Productions. They have been working with Dean Geyer and Paulini, written songs for chart-topping albums in Japan and Korea - and Thanh recently received his first gold album from Germany after working with teen sensation Jimi Blue. Thanh is currently working on his debut album with a number of high-profile LA producers/writers, scheduled for release early next year.

As a vocal coach, he has taught/consulted for students such as Mark Spano (Australian Idol Top 5), Mike Snell (Wicked, Miss Saigon), Sam Gaskin (Jungle Book), Kate Lister (Grease), with a number of his students gaining success both locally and internationally.
Thanh's vision brings a contemporary, up-to-date understanding of the current music environment and strongly believes that to increase the chances of success in the music business, being multi-skilled is vital.

"If you look at successful Australian artists like Delta Goodrem, Shannon Noll, Guy Sebastien, and internationally-acclaimed artists such Justin Timberlake, Beyonce, they are not only great singers, but can play an instrument and are talented songwriters -at IAA, our vision is to develop ARTISTS, not just singers."

"We aim to cater to each individual - you may want to be the next Australian Idol, hit song-writer, or just take up an instrument as a hobby - we will make sure that your goals will be achieved."

Thanh is extremely passionate about giving each individual an opportunity to explore music as it is a language without barrier or prejudice. Together with a dynamic team of fine musicians, Thanh is building a strong Australian network of artists/songwriters to be able to compete with the world's best.

Tammy Ari - Senior Associate
Music has always been a large facet Tammy Ari's life. From her early years, she experienced formal training across many instruments such as piano [achieving AMEB AMUSA], voice, violin and saxophone. This diversity is also reflected in her performing world, where from the age of 11, Tammy has performed in musicals, corporate events and festivals, to large concert audiences in many of Melbourne's largest venues such as Rod Laver Arena, The Crown Palladium, Hammer Hall, Hisense Arena and Melbourne Town Hall.

As the founder and director of ‘The Rhythm Project', she has also had the opportunity to work with some of Australia's best music industry talent. Furthermore, through her recent endeavours in the composition scene (writing songs, jingles and soundtracks), she has also had the opportunity to extend her network and work closely with some of Australia's best DJ's (R&B and Trance) and Television Production companies such as XYZ Networks (MAX Channel), which has seen her land tracks on the MTV channel.

Jason Leow - In-house producer, Associate
Jason commenced formal music training at the age of 5 years old, under a strict violin teacher who drilled him in the fundamentals of music theory. Jason used this knowledge to later become proficient on the piano, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, bass guitar, synthesizer, and drums.

Given his passion for music, Jason started recording music at an early age, overdubbing all his own instruments until the sound was indistinguishable from a real band. In 2007, he applied these skills and formed a song production group called December Switch. The group immediately gained the attention of 20th Century Fox - its debut song was publicised by the filmmaker, and December Switch became a MySpace Featured Artist.

Since then, Jason has established a song promotions headquarters, December Switch LA, in the USA and has formed an alliance with Tarnished Immunity Records in the UK, to help local songwriters get heard worldwide. Jason and the December Switch team are now recording songs for local songwriters, with the aim of co-writing or producing the next worldwide smash hit.
